Eureka (1983) — watch online on iFILM. Nicolas Roeg's unsettling crime drama stars Gene Hackman, Rutger Hauer, Mickey Rourke, and Joe Pesci in one of the stranger films any of them appeared in.

In 1925, gold prospector Jack McCann strikes the largest deposit in the Yukon. The dream is over — in the best and worst sense. Twenty years later he's living as a recluse on his own Caribbean island: richer than most governments, and hollowed out by it. His wife drinks steadily. His daughter has married Claude (Hauer), a French playboy with murky ambitions. And a Miami crime boss named Cornell (Pesci) is pushing hard for the island — he wants to build a casino, and McCann's refusal is the only thing standing in the way.

Roeg doesn't shoot this as a gangster thriller. It's closer to a fable about what happens after the one thing you wanted has been achieved. Critics found it incoherent on release. It's still strange, still hard to categorize — and still worth watching. Stream Eureka (1983) online on iFILM.
