Synopsis
American Murder: Gabby Petito (2025) is the Netflix true-crime documentary series you can watch online on iFILM. Across three episodes it pieces together the story of a young American woman who set out on a cross-country van trip and never made it home.
In the summer of 2021, Gabby and her fiancé drove from park to park, posting a sunlit picture of life on the road. The directors set that feed against everything it left out: text threads, phone footage, a stranger's worried 911 call, and bodycam from the Utah police who pulled the couple over after a fight. Much of the narration is Gabby's own words, read from the messages she sent her family.
Julia Willoughby Nason and Michael Gasparro build the film with almost no outside voice-over — the documents and the people who knew her carry it instead. The result works as both a record of the case and a hard look at the warning signs that are easy to miss in real time. For viewers who follow true crime, this is a tight, unsentimental account.
