Crazy

Crazy (2000) is a German coming-of-age dramedy by Hans-Christian Schmid, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Sixteen-year-old Benjamin, partly paralyzed down one side, lands at yet another school — a boarding school deep in Bavaria where a maths exam still hangs over him.

Away from his parents, Benjamin finally makes real friends — a scrappy crew of misfits who sneak beer, slip into town at night and argue about girls. Then he falls hard for Malen, the school's untouchable beauty. Robert Stadlober and a very young Tom Schilling play boys who find growing up tougher than any exam.

The film grows out of Benjamin Lebert's autobiographical novel, written when he was sixteen and a bestseller across Germany. Schmid keeps it quiet and unforced: nobody saves the world here, they just learn to live with their own bodies and first heartbreaks. A good pick if you liked gentle European teen stories.
