Synopsis
Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer (2023) is a stand-up special you can watch online on iFILM. Filmed in his hometown of Washington, D.C., the hour opens with Chappelle riffing on the night a man rushed the stage and tackled him mid-set the year before.
From that attack to the slap heard round the world, he picks apart the past few years on his own terms. The rhythm is loose and conversational — he thinks out loud, wanders off on a tangent about wanting to be a comedian as a kid, then circles back whenever he feels like it. Longtime collaborator Stan Lathan directs it plainly, keeping the camera out of the way of the talk.
At under an hour, it runs shorter than his earlier specials and lands more personal — less shock for its own sake, more about the man behind the mic.
