Diva (1981) is the French cult thriller you can watch online on iFILM — Jean-Jacques Beineix's debut, and the film that put "cinéma du look" on the map. Jules (Frédéric Andréi), a Parisian postman obsessed with opera, secretly records a concert by the celebrated soprano Cynthia Hawkins, who has turned down every studio contract of her career.

That bootleg tape gets him into trouble. But Jules also ends up with a second cassette — one implicating a corrupt police commissioner in a criminal ring — without ever meaning to. Two Taiwanese record pirates are after the first recording; crooked cops want the second tape destroyed. A street philosopher named Gorodish (Richard Bohringer) and his teenage companion Alba (Thuy An Luu) pull Jules through. Beineix shoots neon-soaked Paris like a noir painting, and the opera score underneath the motorcycle chases gives the whole film its odd, charged atmosphere. Stream Diva (1981) on iFILM.
