Britannia (Seasons 1–3)
No one wants to be civilized.
Synopsis
Britannia (2018) is a British historical fantasy-drama from Sky Atlantic that you can watch online on iFILM. The year is 43 AD: Roman general Aulus Plautius (David Morrissey) lands on an island that has defied empire before, leading legions who are as terrified as they are determined.
Kelly Reilly plays Kerra, a Celtic warrior whose tribal feud with rival queen Antedia (Zoë Wanamaker) has to be put on ice the moment Rome shows up. Nikolaj Lie Kaas is Divis, a druid cast out by his order who ends up caught between every faction at once. MacKenzie Crook and Ian McDiarmid add further layers of pagan strangeness. The series was created by Jez Butterworth — whose stage play Jerusalem made him one of the most distinctive voices in British writing — and the same willingness to go mythic and weird carries over here.
Where Britannia distinguishes itself is tone: it's deliberately slow-burning, ritually strange, and laced with a dry black humour that keeps it from taking itself too seriously. It's not a conventional sword-and-sandals show, and viewers who come in expecting one will be surprised. Stream all seasons of Britannia online on iFILM.
