Synopsis
Flux Gourmet (2022) is Peter Strickland's deadpan blend of horror, comedy and drama, available to watch online on iFILM. A three-person art collective takes up residence at an institute where performances are built from the sounds of cooking and food itself.
The group rehearses, feuds over creative control and quietly torments one another, all observed by a resident writer battling his own digestive troubles. Strickland shoots culinary avant-garde like a ritual — crimson rooms, droning synths, lingering close-ups of bubbling sauce. Fatma Mohamed, Gwendoline Christie and Asa Butterfield play it all with a straight face that makes the absurdity land harder.
This one isn't for everybody: slow, bodily, deliberately uncomfortable. Fans of Strickland's earlier work and British weird cinema will eat it up. Stream Flux Gourmet online on iFILM.
