Synopsis
Oxygen (1999) is Richard Shepard's lean crime thriller, and you can watch online on iFILM. A wealthy man's wife is snatched and sealed in a buried coffin somewhere in the New York woods, with only twenty-four hours of air. The clock starts the moment she goes under.
The case lands on detective Madeline Foster (Maura Tierney) — abrasive, drinking too much, and skating along her own raw edges. She bags the kidnapper fast: a chillingly calm sadist who calls himself Harry Houdini (Adrien Brody). Catching him is the easy part. He won't say where the coffin is, so the interrogation curdles into a head game, with Houdini prying open Madeline's wounds while the buried woman's air thins out.
Years before The Pianist, Brody builds a manipulator who gets right under your skin. This is a tight 92-minute two-hander that runs on performance and a ticking clock. One for fans of grim, talk-driven thrillers. Stream Oxygen (1999) online on iFILM.
