Detective Cole Ellis spent a year demoted to marine patrol after a by-the-book blunder. Con woman Max Mitchell made her living deceiving whoever crossed her path. One crime scene encounter turns into a deal: Cole gets his badge back, Max stays out of prison, and they work every case together. He runs investigations by the rules; she runs them through charm, misdirection, and carefully timed lies that regularly drive her partner to the edge.
