Synopsis
Death of a Salesman (1985) is the acclaimed TV film of Arthur Miller's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, available to watch online on iFILM. Director Volker Schlöndorff shot the cast coming straight off their celebrated 1984 Broadway run — Dustin Hoffman as Willy Loman, John Malkovich as his son Biff.
Willy is in his sixties and losing his grip. The sales territory is gone, the house still has a mortgage, and neither of his sons turned out the way he planned. Biff is back home with nothing to show; the younger Happy keeps pretending everything is fine. Willy retreats into memory, arguing with a dead brother, replaying old choices, searching for the one moment where it all went wrong. The play offers no clean answer — which is part of why it is still performed everywhere.
Hoffman lived with this role long enough that every hesitation feels earned. Malkovich's Biff — furious, wounded, and oddly tender toward the man he can't forgive — gives the film its emotional counterweight. Together they make this the definitive screen version of Miller's meditation on failure, fatherhood and the cost of a dream held too long. Stream Death of a Salesman (1985) online on iFILM.
