Synopsis
The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum (1975) is the German drama you can watch online on iFILM. Volker Schlöndorff and Margarethe von Trotta adapted Heinrich Böll's short novel from the year before. A reserved housekeeper named Katharina goes home with a charming stranger she meets at a party — and wakes to learn the man is wanted as a terrorist.
What follows is a slow vise. Police kick in her door, the interrogations circle back on themselves, and a tabloid reporter spins one filthy headline after another until the quiet life she built falls apart. Angela Winkler plays a woman methodically driven to the edge, with Mario Adorf, Jürgen Prochnow and Dieter Laser around her. Schlöndorff shoots it cold and exact, no hysterics — which makes the trap closing on Katharina scarier than any thriller. Böll wrote the book as a reply to a real press smear campaign, and the film lands on the same nerve: how fast a headline can destroy someone. Sharp, austere cinema for anyone drawn to 1970s European drama. Stream The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum (1975) online on iFILM.
