Synopsis
Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning (2008) is a Canadian family drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Kevin Sullivan and starring Rachel Blanchard, Shirley MacLaine, and Barbara Hershey. The television film runs 144 minutes.
It is 1945. Widowed and back at Green Gables to write, Anne Shirley discovers a bundle of letters hidden under the floorboards — and the past pulls her in completely. She was no orphan by accident: her father Walter Shirley walked away after her mother Bertha died, leaving the girl in the care of the severe Amelia Thomas, a businesswoman who ran mills, feuded with bankers, and treated sentiment as a liability. The two timelines — past and present — run side by side, each filling in what the other leaves out.
Sullivan first brought Anne to television screens in the 1980s; this feature-length film was his return to close the story on his own terms. For fans of Lucy Maud Montgomery it offers something the novels never gave directly: the years Anne herself never spoke of. Stream Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning online on iFILM.
