Directed by Stefan Scaini, this is a considerably darker film than either predecessor, running L.M. Montgomery's beloved characters through the machinery of actual historical catastrophe. It demands more from the audience and gives back something harder-earned. A satisfying and sobering close to Megan Follows' Anne trilogy.
