Doc Martin (2004), Season 1 — six-episode ITV comedy drama you can watch online on iFILM. The premise arrives in one abrupt fact: brilliant London surgeon Martin Ellingham develops haemophobia, hands in his scalpel, and takes a GP post in a sleepy Cornish fishing village.
Portwenn does not welcome him warmly. Patients drift in and treat the waiting room as a local gossip corner. A stomach virus sweeps half the village and the Doc traces it to the public pool. The schoolteacher Louisa invites him to a village dance; he declines. When the village eventually learns about his blood phobia, the news travels faster than any infection.
Martin Clunes plays the character with precise comic economy — blunt to the point of rudeness, yet clearly the most competent person in any room.
