Late 1960s England. Homosexuality has just been decriminalized, but political exposure carries its own sentence. Thorpe had an affair with Norman Scott (Ben Whishaw), a young stable hand; when Scott refused to stay quiet, Thorpe started looking for a way to end the problem permanently. The three episodes follow that descent: cover-up into conspiracy, conspiracy into a bungled hit on Dartmoor, and eventually a very public accusation and a courtroom.
