About
Synopsis
"The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" (1938) is the first Technicolor film adaptation of Mark Twain's classic — watch online on iFILM, directed by Norman Taurog for Selznick International.
Tom and Huck drift along the Mississippi: they play pirate on the river, slip in to hear their own funeral eulogies, and stumble onto a real murder. Victor Jory plays Injun Joe as a genuinely threatening villain, and the cave climax is darker than Twain wrote it. The full-color photography isn't a gimmick here — it makes Missouri summers feel wide and warm in a way the earlier black-and-white versions never could.
