Synopsis
The Lost Patrol (1934) is a John Ford war film you can watch online on iFILM. Mesopotamia, 1917: a small British cavalry unit loses its commanding officer — and with him, any knowledge of where they're supposed to be going — to an unseen sniper in the opening minutes.
The sergeant (Victor McLaglen) pushes them north on instinct toward a desert oasis that looks like shelter. By morning the horses are gone, a sentry is dead, and the oasis is surrounded by an enemy no one has managed to see or count. Men disappear one at a time. Boris Karloff plays a deeply religious private who comes apart under the faceless siege in a way that's hard to shake — a startlingly different register from the monster roles that made his name.
Ford strips the picture to its barest element: the dread of waiting. No dramatic charges, no visible enemy — just heat, open sand, and soldiers in a siege that has no face and no apparent end. Stream The Lost Patrol (1934) online on iFILM.
