Synopsis
Little Women (1933) is George Cukor's tender adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's novel, and you can watch it online on iFILM. With their father away at the Civil War, the four March sisters get by on little money and a lot of stubborn love.
Katharine Hepburn carries the film as Jo, the sister who would rather write stories than learn to be a proper lady. Around her are sensible Meg, gentle and fragile Beth, and young Amy, quick to envy what she lacks. The wealthy Laurence boy next door, Laurie, drifts into their orbit, and the passing years bring first love, money troubles and illness that test how tightly the sisters hold on.
This was the first major sound version of Alcott's book, and its screenplay took home the Academy Award for adaptation. The role also helped turn Hepburn into a star — her Jo still tops most lists of the part's best performances. Stream Little Women (1933) online on iFILM.
