Synopsis
Memento Mori (여고괴담 두번째 이야기, 1999) is a South Korean horror film you can watch online on iFILM. A schoolgirl stumbles on a hidden diary written in two different hands. The more she reads, the clearer it gets: a classmate's recent suicide hides a story someone wanted buried for good.
Inside the diary lives the secret romance of two girls, Hyo-shin and Shi-eun — their closeness, then their breaking apart. Something seems to drift through the corridors of the all-girls school, and the grief of the dead refuses to let go of the living. This is no jump-scare ride; the dread grows out of guilt, bullying and the pain of loving where you can't be seen. Look for a young Gong Hyo-jin in the cast before she became a star.
The second entry in the Whispering Corridors series, the film was co-directed by Min Kyu-dong and Kim Tae-yong. Critics still call it one of the boldest Korean films of the late nineties for treating teenage same-sex love head-on, without flinching. Melancholy, beautiful and unsettling, it's for viewers who like Asian horror built on mood rather than monsters. Stream Memento Mori (1999) online on iFILM.
