Synopsis

Xingu (2012) is a Brazilian historical drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Cao Hamburger. In the 1940s the Brazilian government sent expeditions into unmapped western territory; among the crew were the three Villas-Bôas brothers, who went for the adventure and ended up staying decades for a cause.

João Miguel, Felipe Camargo and Caio Blat play Orlando, Cláudio and Leonardo Villas-Bôas, whose sustained effort to protect Amazonian indigenous peoples eventually produced the Xingu Indigenous Park — one of South America's largest protected territories, established in 1961. Parts of the film were shot with members of the Kayabi, Aweti, and Waurá communities. It's a slow-burn portrait of three men who entered the jungle as civil servants and left as something closer to advocates — and of how much that shift cost them. Stream Xingu (2012) on iFILM.
