Synopsis

The season fits a whole life into four chapters. First, washerwoman Sarah refuses to accept her place and sets out to sell a hair product — and when she's rebuffed, the gloves come off. Then comes the dream of her own factory, which hangs on backing from Black businessmen and an endorsement from Booker T. Washington. Expansion carries her to New York and brings betrayals on both fronts, professional and personal. The closing chapter stacks a health scare, trouble with her workers and a private loss, forcing Sarah to decide what her legacy will be.
