Synopsis
The Last Vermeer (2019) is a historical mystery you can watch online on iFILM. Dan Friedkin's first feature drops us into Amsterdam in the rubble of 1945, where former resistance fighter Joseph Piller is handed a case about a painting that ended up in the hands of the Nazi elite.
At its heart sits Han van Meegeren, a loud, vain art dealer played by Guy Pearce. The charge against him is selling a Vermeer to the enemy — a hanging offense for collaboration. Claes Bang plays Piller, and the harder he digs, the less the accusation holds together. The whole thing pivots on one brazen confession that flips the courtroom upside down, so no specifics here.
None of this is invented: behind van Meegeren stood a real forger who fooled the experts and Göring alike. The movie cares less about the war than about ego, talent and what a well-played lie is worth. Vicky Krieps and August Diehl round out the cast.
