Synopsis
A White, White Day (Hvítur, Hvítur Dagur, 2019) is an Icelandic drama from director Hlynur Pálmason that you can watch online on iFILM. In a remote coastal town, an aging police chief grieves the wife he lost in a car crash — and slowly comes to believe she had been seeing another man before she died.
Suspicion hardens into something he can't put down. Ingimundur sifts through her things, shadows the local man he takes for her lover, and loses his footing a little more each day. His one anchor is a young granddaughter, the person he holds on for and the person his obsession puts at risk. Ingvar Sigurðsson plays the lead.
Pálmason films it spare and harsh: long held shots, fog that swallows the road and then gives it all back. Sigurðsson took the acting prize at Cannes Critics' Week for the role, and the film became Iceland's Oscar submission. This is slow cinema about grief, jealousy and a love that won't let go — for anyone who likes Nordic drama that never raises its voice. Stream A White, White Day (2019) online on iFILM.
