Synopsis

The First 48 Season 1 is A&E's true-crime documentary, and you can watch online on iFILM — thirteen 2004 episodes built on a single rule of homicide work: if there's no lead within 48 hours, the odds of solving the case fall by half.

The opening season rides along with real detective squads in Miami, Kansas City, Phoenix and Detroit, shadowing them through those first frantic hours. A body burned past recognition in a park. A mother shot at her own kitchen counter in a good neighborhood. A woman's skeleton out in the desert. A killing whose only witness is a store's surveillance tape. No actors, no staged reenactments — crime scenes, autopsies, forensics and interrogations as they actually unfold, narrated by Dion Graham.

It's shot hard and fast, closer to drama than to the usual ride-along reportage. This one's for viewers drawn less to a tidy whodunit than to the grind itself: the fatigue, the dead ends, the deals detectives cut to move a case. Stream The First 48 Season 1 online on iFILM.
