Synopsis
Django (2017) is a French drama about the legendary jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt that you can watch online on iFILM. The year is 1943, Paris belongs to the Germans, and a musician who fills concert halls every night realizes that as a Roma man he could be rounded up at any moment.
Reda Kateb carries the title role, with Cécile de France as the woman trying to get him out. The film walks a knife's edge: the occupiers adore Django's swing even as they hunt his people, and he keeps wavering between playing along and running for the Swiss border. Music runs all the way through it — not as background, but as the voice the hero uses when words won't do.
This was the directing debut of Étienne Comar, who wrote Of Gods and Men, and it opened the 2017 Berlinale. It cares less about a tidy biopic checklist than about what art costs when the world turns murderous. A good pick if you like unhurried period cinema built around live performance.
