Synopsis
Stavisky... (1974) is Alain Resnais' crime drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Jean-Paul Belmondo stars as Serge Alexandre — known as Stavisky — a silver-tongued con man who looks every inch the tycoon in the Biarritz of 1933 while quietly running on forged securities.
Charm and cash buy him a seat near the centre of French power, with well-placed officials shielding him from awkward questions. Then the multi-million franc swindle unravels. The fallout reaches far past one man: the government wobbles, unrest spills into the streets, and Serge never sees the early days of 1934. Charles Boyer and a very young Gérard Depardieu round out the cast.
