Synopsis
A Complete Unknown (2024) is a biographical drama you can watch online on iFILM — director James Mangold's portrait of Bob Dylan's early years, from a nineteen-year-old arriving in New York with a guitar to the moment he blew up an entire folk movement at Newport in 1965. Timothée Chalamet plays Dylan with a kind of restless self-certainty that makes every scene feel like a dare.
The film tracks Dylan through Greenwich Village in the early 1960s: finding a mentor in a dying Woody Guthrie (Edward Norton), falling for Sylvie (Elle Fanning), and writing his way onto every stage worth playing. The closer he gets to becoming a spokesperson for a generation, the harder he pulls in the opposite direction. Monica Barbaro appears as Joan Baez, adding another voice to a story already full of competing claims on who Dylan should be.
Mangold keeps the lens close and the mythology at arm's length. No legend-building montages — just a young man making choices that confused everyone around him and turned out to be exactly right.
