Synopsis
Sin (Il peccato, 2019) is an Italian-Russian historical drama you can watch online on iFILM — Andrei Konchalovsky's portrait of Michelangelo Buonarroti at his most restless and most unreachable. Alberto Testone plays the sculptor in later life: obsessive, antisocial, willing to sleep in a quarry to find the right block of marble.
Two dynasties want his hands. The Medici want tombs. Pope Julius II — barely settled onto the papal throne — demands the façade of St. Peter's. Michelangelo takes advances from both and finishes nothing, because the thing he imagines is always a step ahead of what he can execute. Konchalovsky frames this not as a triumph-of-art story but as a study in what mastery costs the person carrying it.
The film claimed the Special Jury Prize at San Sebastián in 2019. Julia Vysotskaya appears in a supporting role. Slow, formally composed, and visually precise — a film you watch with patience, not speed. Watch Sin online on iFILM.
