Synopsis
American Born Chinese (2023) is a Disney+ series you can watch online on iFILM — a teen coming-of-age comedy that keeps swerving into a war among Chinese gods.
Jin Wang is an ordinary high schooler caught between two worlds: the immigrant home his parents keep and the American social life he wants to belong to. On the first day of term he befriends a new foreign student, Wei-Chen, and gets pulled into a celestial feud he never signed up for. Hallway embarrassments and mythological power struggles keep bleeding into each other.
It's adapted from Gene Luen Yang's graphic novel, a landmark book on Asian American identity. Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi) directs, and the show reunites Everything Everywhere All at Once's Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, both fresh off their Oscars.
