Synopsis
Little Women (2017) is a three-part miniseries adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's novel that you can watch online on iFILM. It traces the four March sisters as they grow up in New England while their father serves on the front and the country tears itself apart between North and South.
Each sister carries her own thread. Headstrong Jo (Maya Hawke's screen debut) wants to write and refuses to marry; eldest Meg longs for finer things; gentle Beth rarely leaves the house; youngest Amy is jealous of everyone at once. Around them are their mother Marmee, played by Emily Watson, the sharp-tongued Aunt March (Angela Lansbury), grumpy neighbor Mr. Laurence (Michael Gambon) and his grandson Laurie, who is quietly in love with Jo. The girls move through first romances, money worries, illness and early grief.
Written by Heidi Thomas of Call the Midwife and directed by Vanessa Caswill, this version plays it intimate and slightly muted, with none of the usual sugar. It's for viewers who like a costume drama built on real characters rather than postcard nostalgia — and it's a chance to catch Maya Hawke just before Stranger Things.
