Newtopia (Season 1)

Newtopia (뉴토피아, 2025) is a South Korean series you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Yoon Sung-hyun. Park Jeong-min and Lee Hak-joo lead the cast in a genre mix that shouldn't work on paper but does: a zombie outbreak wrapped around a breakup story.

Jae-yoon is finishing his military service when his girlfriend Young-joo ends things over the phone. He's planning to track her down and fix it when the situation in Seoul goes sideways entirely — a national emergency is declared, a plane goes down in the city center, and his unit ends up trapped on top of a skyscraper with infected closing in. Meanwhile Young-joo, who had just been done with him, decides to cross the zombie-filled streets to find him anyway.

Korean genre television has produced some of the most inventive zombie content in recent years, and Newtopia earns its place in that run by keeping the emotional stakes as high as the action ones.
