Odd Job

Odd Job (Un petit boulot, 2016) is a French action-comedy directed by Pascal Chaumeil — watch it online on iFILM. Jacques has just lost his factory job and has no prospects. When a local crime boss offers him a very specific one-time gig — kill the man's unfaithful wife — Jacques, against all better judgment, says yes.

The problem is that Jacques has no idea how to actually do it. His attempts at the job are immediately, entertainingly wrong, and the situation compounds when his new girlfriend turns out to be a detective assigned to find the incompetent killer everyone is now looking for. Romain Duris is well-cast here: he plays Jacques not as a buffoon but as a fundamentally decent man in way over his head, which keeps the comedy from tipping into farce.
