Synopsis
Tales of the Night (Les Contes de la nuit, 2011) is Michel Ocelot's animated feature, ready to watch online on iFILM. Night after night, inside an old cinema, three people — a young man, a young woman and an elderly technician — invent a new fairy tale and act it out themselves.
Out of that game come six stories, each carrying you somewhere else: Tibet, medieval Europe, an Aztec kingdom, the African plains, and even the land of the dead. Werewolves, enchanted princesses, a drummer boy holding a whole village's fate on his sticks — the plots stay simple, the way fables should, but Ocelot draws them as jet-black silhouettes against burning, jewel-toned backdrops, turning the screen into a stained-glass shadow theatre.
