Astier keeps building on what the M6 television series started in 2005: a shift from deadpan court comedy toward something heavier, where the crown is a burden and the gods are a real threat. Christian Clavier and Virginie Ledoyen anchor the supporting cast, and the film moves with more consequence than the early series did — fewer jokes, more riding on every choice.
