Synopsis
The Kid (El Niño, 2014) is a Spanish crime thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Daniel Monzón. Two young men, Niño and Compi, have found a reliable sideline: run a speedboat loaded with hashish across the Strait of Gibraltar at night, collect the money, disappear.
On the law-enforcement side, narcotics agents Jesús and Eva have been tracking this route for years, convinced it is also a gateway for harder product moving into Europe. Ian McShane plays a figure considerably above the local supply chain, while Luis Tosar is the investigator prepared to wait for as long as it takes. The four storylines tighten toward each other across the film's 136 minutes.
Monzón shot on location — Algeciras, Ceuta, open water — and the geography does real work here. The strait is fourteen kilometres wide and functions almost as a character: close enough to see the other shore, far enough to lose everything crossing it.
