Synopsis
Outlaws (Las leyes de la frontera, 2021) is a Spanish crime drama directed by Daniel Monzón, available to watch online on iFILM. Nacho is a quiet student from Girona who crosses paths with Jaume and Tere — two young delinquents operating out of the city's Chinatown, well outside the world Nacho grew up in.
The summer is 1978. Spain is barely past the Franco era, money is scarce on the margins, and the rules enforced in certain neighbourhoods have nothing to do with the law. Nacho keeps telling himself he's just along for the ride. Then the armed hold-ups start, and the line between observer and participant dissolves faster than he expected. Marcos Ruiz and Begoña Vargas carry the film as characters who never had much say in who they were going to become.
Monzón adapted the film from Javier Cercas' novel — the same author behind Anatomy of a Moment. It's a genre picture that takes its milieu seriously: the poverty, the political transition, the specific gravity of that particular decade. Stream Outlaws online on iFILM.
