Synopsis
Der Fuehrer's Face (1943) is the Disney wartime cartoon you can watch online on iFILM — eight minutes of Donald Duck dropped into enemy territory. Jack Kinney directed it; Clarence Nash voices the duck.
Donald wakes up a citizen of Nutziland, a swastika-stamped country where breakfast is wood-shaving coffee and a single sniff of bread under glass. Then it's off to an artillery plant, screwing caps onto shells around the clock with no sleep and no choice. The assembly line speeds up, the heils never stop, and Donald cracks. How it ends rewrites the whole thing in the last thirty seconds.
The short took home the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, and Oliver Wallace's title tune turned into a novelty hit all on its own. The satire is blunt and mean by design — it was propaganda, and it never pretends otherwise. Watch it now less for the laughs than as a sharp little artifact of 1943. Stream Der Fuehrer's Face online on iFILM.
