Synopsis
The Seventh Victim (1943) — an American mystery-horror you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Mark Robson and produced by Val Lewton at RKO. Mary Gibson leaves boarding school and heads to New York City to find her older sister Jacqueline, who has disappeared without explanation.
The trail leads to Greenwich Village and a quiet, well-educated Satanist circle called the Palladists — people who approach death as a philosophy rather than a threat. Kim Hunter's screen debut: she would claim an Oscar for A Streetcar Named Desire eight years later. Lewton never needed creatures or violence to unsettle an audience. What made his films work was silence, shadow, and the steady feeling that something has already gone wrong before the first scene ends. This is among the darkest things he made.
