Day of Wrath

Day of Wrath (Vredens dag, 1943) — watch online one of Carl Theodor Dreyer's most devastating films, a Danish historical drama made under Nazi occupation. Dreyer paces every scene with almost no musical score — just silence, candlelight, and the slow accumulation of dread. The trap closes scene by scene, and none of the characters find a way out.

Shot by cinematographer Karl Andersson with hard light falling through latticed windows, the film is less about historical spectacle than about the mechanics of fear and accusation.
