Synopsis
American Movie (1999) is a documentary you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Chris Smith and following Mark Borchardt — a self-taught filmmaker from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Borchardt has been making low-budget films for years and has a plan: finish his horror short Coven, sell enough copies on VHS to fund his real dream project, an autobiographical feature called Northwestern. Smith spent over two years following him through screaming matches with family investors, endless reshoots in a Wisconsin winter, and the calm company of his best friend Mike Schank, who scores the films and absorbs every setback without comment.
