Tim Roth plays John Christie — a quiet, polite tenant at 10 Rillington Place in postwar west London who killed women and buried them on the property over a period of years. Samantha Morton plays his wife Ethel. Jody Comer is Beryl Evans, the pregnant wife of Christie's lodger: Beryl was among Christie's victims, and her husband Timothy was sent to the gallows after Christie gave false testimony against him.

Christie was caught and convicted much later. By that point the state had hanged an innocent man, and that fact reached the floor of Parliament during the debate over capital punishment.
