Synopsis
At War for Love (In guerra per amore, 2016) is an Italian tragicomedy from director Pif that you can watch online on iFILM. New York, 1943: penniless immigrant Arturo loves Flora, but her family has promised her to the son of a Mafia boss.
To win her hand, Arturo needs the blessing of her father — who lives in a remote village back in Sicily. With no money for the crossing, he lands on an absurd solution: enlist in the U.S. Army, which happens to be gearing up to invade the island. His private love story gets stitched into a real chapter of the war, the Allied landing in which American forces quietly leaned on the local Mafia. Miriam Leone plays Flora; Pif himself takes the lead role.
Pif works in his trademark register, where the funny and the ugly sit side by side: a wide-eyed hero stumbles through chaos while the comedy slowly bares its teeth about how the Mafia dug into postwar Sicily.
