The Polaris VI research station goes quiet during the polar night. When Johan Berg leads the summer team back to base, he finds most of the winter crew dead or missing. Maggie is the only survivor. Arthur turns up shortly after and gives a completely different account. Two witnesses, zero overlap — and then a frozen hand pokes out of the snow near the base, followed by the confirmation that one death was murder. What the killer was looking for, Maggie knows, and knowing it is its own kind of danger. The season cuts between flashback and investigation so the timeline keeps shifting under you; the moment the full picture snaps into place makes the patience worth it.

Winter has fallen on the South Pole. A small team, known as the Winterers, will remain at the Polaris VI Antarctic Research Station to continue their innovative research, a crucial part in the fight against climate change. After the winter, Johan Berg returns to base, finding most of the team dead or missing. Only Maggie remained at the station.
