Kissed

Kissed (1996), a Canadian drama directed by Lynne Stopkewich, can be watched online on iFILM. Molly Parker plays Sandra, a woman for whom death has never felt frightening — since childhood it carried a sense of closeness she couldn't find anywhere else. As an adult she trains as an embalmer, and the work is everything she wanted.

Peter Outerbridge plays a man who falls in love with her and tries, genuinely, to understand a worldview that has no room for the living. Stopkewich adapts Barbara Gowdy's short story with enough restraint that the film never tips into provocation — it reads as a love story, which turns out to be the more unsettling choice.
