Synopsis
Blood and Wine (1996) is a British-American crime thriller directed by Bob Rafelson — watch it online on iFILM. Jack Nicholson plays Alex Gates, a Miami wine dealer who moves in wealthy circles and sees exactly what he can't afford. So he decides to steal it: a diamond necklace, one quick job, a clean exit.
His partners are his Cuban mistress and a safecracker named Victor, played by Michael Caine — tubercular, old, technically flawless, and the scariest person in any room. The heist goes through. Then Alex's estranged wife and teenage stepson get hold of the loot, and the film shifts into something grimmer: a family implosion with money at the center and everyone reaching for a weapon.
Rafelson had been mapping self-destructive men since Five Easy Pieces, and this is late Nicholson at his least showy — no grin, no scenery-chewing, just a guy who made one too many wrong turns and can feel the walls closing. The Nicholson-Caine pairing alone makes it worth the time. Jennifer Lopez turns up in an early supporting role before her star fully rose. Stream Blood and Wine (1996) on iFILM.
