Synopsis
The Climbers (攀登者, 2019) is a Chinese historical action epic you can watch online on iFILM. It draws on a true expedition: a Chinese team's push up the planet's tallest peak by its hardest, northern face.
In the spring of 1960, three climbers reached the very top of Everest — but their camera vanished on the way down, and without footage from the summit the wider world refused to credit the feat. Fifteen years pass. The country wants the record settled for good, so the surviving veterans are called back to train a fresh squad and make the climb again, this time with proof. Fang Wuzhou (Wu Jing) carries the weight of a victory nobody counts. Meteorologist Xu Ying (Zhang Ziyi) reads the narrow gaps between killer storms that decide whether anyone moves at all.
Directed by Daniel Lee, the cast also folds in Jackie Chan and Hu Ge. The film trades intimacy for sheer scale — avalanches, sheer ice walls, gusts that rip men clean off the ridge. The patriotism runs thick in spots, but the summit-assault sequences and mountain vistas earn their runtime. Good for anyone who loves a big climbing adventure rooted in a real ascent.
