Synopsis
14 Blades (錦衣衛, 2010) is a Chinese-Hong Kong wuxia action film directed by Daniel Lee — watch it online on iFILM. Donnie Yen plays Qinglong, head of the Jinyiwei, the Ming dynasty's imperial secret service: answerable only to the emperor, feared by everyone else, and effectively above the law.
Late in the dynasty's decline, court eunuchs have taken control of the guard and manipulated Qinglong into stealing what turns out to be the imperial seal rather than a list of traitors. Framed and hunted by the very institution he served, he has to fight his way through enemies on every side. Sammo Hung and Zhao Wei round out a cast that genre fans will recognise immediately.
The action sequences are dense and efficiently staged — no long dramatic pauses between fights. For viewers who enjoy Ming-era martial arts films with a political edge, this is a solid pick. Stream 14 Blades (2010) on iFILM.
