Synopsis
All About Me (Der Junge muss an die frische Luft, 2018) is a German biographical comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Caroline Link. Young Julius Weckauf carries the film as the child version of Hape Kerkeling, one of Germany's most beloved comedians.
The story is set in the Ruhr region in the early 1970s. Hape grows up in a large, affectionate family where his grandmother and uncle teach him to find humour in everything — and he turns out to be a natural. But his mother's worsening illness casts a long shadow over the warmth, and the film doesn't look away from that.
Link threads comedy and grief together without letting either swamp the other, which is the harder trick to pull off. Weckauf delivers a performance that anchors the whole picture, and the family ensemble around him — including Joachim Król and Ursula Werner — fills in every corner.
