Synopsis
Chef's Special (Fuera de carta, 2008) is a Spanish comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Nacho G. Velilla and starring Javier Cámara, one of the most familiar faces in Spanish cinema after years working with Pedro Almodóvar.
Maxi runs a thriving restaurant in Chueca, Madrid's historically gay neighbourhood, and has his life arranged exactly the way he likes it. Then his ex-wife dies, and the two kids they had together — a sullen teenage son and a younger daughter who barely knows him — show up at his door. A new attractive neighbour adds another complication, and a restaurant inspector is due any day. Velilla keeps the tone warm without letting the family dynamics go slack; Cámara plays a man who was absolutely certain he knew himself until, quite suddenly, he didn't.
