Long Way North

Long Way North (Tout en haut du monde, 2015) is a French-Danish animated feature by Rémi Chayé you can watch online on iFILM. It is 1892 in Saint Petersburg. Sasha, the teenage daughter of an aristocratic family, refuses to accept that her grandfather — a celebrated Arctic explorer — simply vanished with his ship somewhere north of Norway.

While the adults write off the expedition as lost and quietly bury the disgrace, Sasha slips away, reaches the Norwegian ports, and talks her way onto a merchant vessel heading into the ice.

Chayé drew the film in a flat, almost graphic style — solid color fields and clean outlines instead of the textured 3D finish that dominates animation today.
